Nixon Resigns as U.S. President

On August 8, 1974, President Richard Nixon addressed the nation, announcing his resignation from the office of the presidency. The first U.S. president to ever resign, Nixon did so to avoid impeachment after he lost all political support following the Watergate scandal.
