Israeli Commandos Rescue Hostages in Uganda
On June 27, 1976, an Air France flight carrying 248 passengers was hijacked and taken to Uganda. After landing, everyone except the Israeli passengers were released. On the night of July 3, Israeli commandos raided the airport and rescued 102 of the 106 hostages. In the fighting, one commando was killed and five wounded. Three hostages were killed and the fourth was killed later at a nearby hospital. All the hijackers and 45 Ugandan soldiers were killed, and thirty Ugandan aircraft were destroyed.
